Portfolio Overview
a look at the various collections of my work
I sometimes think of this as “The Goddess and the Girl Next Door” collection. In the practice of developing skill in drawing and painting the figure, I started looking for the divine feminine in all of the subjects -- it is always there, an aspect of the Goddess, and a Being in the Light. I have fallen in love with painting the figure.
Painting from life allows a precious opportunity to use artistic vision, to really SEE the being and character upon whom the light shines. It is a lovely path of growth for every artist, and this collection shows some of my favorites from 2008 to early 2011.
These are modern portraits generally painted from a live model, and during a single sitting. They are not camera perfect photographic likenesses. Rather, they are intended to convey the essential energy of the person, something of their character, in the moment, with a loose style. The emphasis is on light, color harmony, and brush work, There is a selection of paintings to see, and portraits can be commissioned as gifts.
Living now in the Andes mountains in Northern Ecuador, I find my new subjects fascinating, and challenging. The mountains, the street scenes and the people are inspiring, and I am growing and changing as an artist.
This is my most recent work, created this year in Ecuador, using mainly the palette knife rather than the brush, and working from inner landscapes and dreams.
These works express some of my dreams and visions. They come from inner wisdom work, and the beautiful connectedness that comes from vision questing. This collection includes paintings, pastels, and drawings that have themes of woman’s spirituality, the divine feminine, becoming elders and wise women, and praying for peace.
Gardens, Landscapes and Still Life
This collection includes paintings of homes and gardens, which express the love people have put into their personal landscapes, and plein aire and still life paintings from my regular painting practice.
I love to capture the light of the moment, and I am always looking high and low for an interesting photograph. You can see the collections of Places, Landscapes, and Nature photography. I like to think of it as sharing how I see the miraculous creation, or sharing a story or a moment of life.
